Research assistant, Ph.D. student and post-doc positions at the University of Athens 28/05/2014

There are currently a few openings for Research assistants, Ph.D. students and post-docs at the Dept. of Informatics and Telecommunications, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The successful candidates will work with Prof. Manolis Koubarakis (http://cgi.di.uoa.gr/~koubarak/) and will be funded by one of the following projects:
* LEO: This project concentrates on linked geospatial and Earth Observation data and its application to precision farming. See http://www.linkedeodata.eu/

* Melodies: This project concentrates on linked open data in a cloud computing environment with the following applications:
emission inventories, urban accounting, land management, groundwater modeling, ocean status assessment, desertification indicators, crisis mapping and marine transport services. See

* Optique: This project concentrates on semantic technologies and big data with applications in the energy sector brought in by industrial partners Statoil and Siemens. See
http://www.optique-project.eu/

* SCARE: Scalable Query Processing and Reasoning for Linked Geospatial Data. This project concentrates on parallel and cloud-based techniques for geospatial query languages such as stSPARQL and GeoSPARQL. It is a recent Research Excellence II grant awarded to Prof. Koubarakis by the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology (Grant No. 4668, Program "Education and Lifelong Learning", ESPA 2007-2013).

The successful candidates will also have the opportunity to work closely with other faculty members of the "Management of Data, Information and Knowledge" group at the University of Athens  (http://www.madgik.di.uoa.gr/):Profs. Mike Chatzopoulos, Alex Delis, Dimitris Gunopulos and Yannis Ioannidis.

Salaries depend on previous experience of the candidate.
