* Description
The School of Computing Science at Newcastle University invites applications for a PhD studentship under the supervision of Dr Jaume Bacardit in the context of big data.
Bacardit and his colleagues have spent several years developing data mining methods able to process vast amounts of information by using a combination of advanced machine learning algorithms and hardware advances such as GPGPUs, and with a strong emphasis on knowledge extraction and visualisation.
These methods have been successfully applied to a variety of real-world problems in bioinformatics and biomedical data mining. This line of research has won several prizes, international competitions and best paper awards, and has been published in major conferences and journals (http://homepages.cs.ncl.ac.uk/jaume.bacardit/publications.html).
The goal of this studentship is to extend this successful line of research to fully embrace the power of big data technologies (e.g. Hadoop, Mahout, Spark) and provide a big leap forward in the analytics capabilities of our methods.
* Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should have at least an upper second-class honours degree (ideally a first class degree), or a combination of qualifications and/or experience equivalent to that level. Ideally, students should have a BSc or MSc degree in computer science.
Applicants should be strong programmers, and experience in machine learning/data mining/big data/information visualisation will be greatly valued.
* Value of award
100% tuition fees (UK/EU rate) plus £14,057 annual stipend for three years.
Successful international candidates will be required to make up the difference between the UK/EU fees and international fees.

19th Panhellenic Conference on Informatics (PCI 2015): Call for Papers
The Greek Computer Society (GCS) and the Department of Informatics of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (TEI of Athens) organise the 19th Panhellenic Conference on Informatics (PCI 2015) in Athens, Greece, on 1st-3rd of October 2015.
PCI 2015 encourages the submission of high quality papers describing original and unpublished results of conceptual, empirical, experimental, or theoretical work in all areas of Informatics and Computer Science.
In addition, PCI invites proposals for Special Sessions addressing emerging Ιnformatics and Τelecommunications topics. Special Sessions will run in parallel to the main conference and accepted papers will appear in the Conference Proceedings.

Προκήρυξη θέσης για συνεργάτη από το ΕΚΕΦΕ «Δημόκριτος»
Το Ινστιτούτο Πληροφορικής και Τηλεπικοινωνιών του ΕΚΕΦΕ «Δημόκριτος», στο πλαίσιο υλοποίησης του ερευνητικού προγράμματος/έργου «ΣΥΝΑΙΣΘΗΣΗ - ΕΞΟΙΚΟΝΟΜΗΣΗ ΕΝΕΡΓΕΙΑΣ ΜΕ ΕΥΦΥΗ ΔΙΚΤΥΑ ΣΥΛΛΟΓΗΣ ΚΑΙ ΕΠΕΞΕΡΓΑΣΙΑΣ ΔΕΔΟΜΕΝΩΝ», που χρηματοδοτείται από τις Αναπτυξιακές Προτάσεις Ερευνητικών Φορέων (ΚΡΗΠΙΣ), προσκαλεί τους ενδιαφερόμενους να υποβάλλουν προτάσεις για σύναψη συμβάσεων μίσθωσης έργου διάρκειας έξι έως δώδεκα (6-12) μηνών, με δυνατότητα παράτασης, για εξωτερικό επιστημονικό συνεργάτη πτυχιούχο ΑΕΙ/ΑΤΕΙ τμημάτων Πληροφορικής/Επιστήμης Υπολογιστών ή/και Τηλεπικοινωνιών, ή Ηλεκτρ. Μηχ. ή/και Μηχανικών Η/Υ, Φυσικής, Μαθηματικών, ή Εφαρμοσμένων Μαθηματικών, ως εξής:
(1) Θέση στη θεματική περιοχή της 'Διαχείριση Ταυτότητας για το Internet του Μέλλοντος (Identity Management for the Future Internet)'
α) Εμπειρία στην κάλυψη του αντικειμένου της θέσης με γνώσεις σε ανάπτυξη λογισμικού για συστήματα διαχείρισης ταυτότητας και δικαιωμάτων πρόσβασης και διαχείρισης συσχετίσεων οντοτήτων σε διαδικτυακό περιβάλλον (Internet of Things). Ιδανικά ο υποψήφιος θα έχει υλοποιήσει λύσεις με μοντέλο ομοσπονδίας σε γλώσσες προγραμματισμού όπως java, jython, python και html5. (μέχρι 6 μόρια).
Θα εκτιμηθούν ιδιαίτερα η γνώση και εμπειρία σε:
- μοντέρνες αρχιτεκτονικές Service-oriented architectures (SOA) σε περιβάλλον cloudcomputing και υλοποίηση RestFul API’s
- OpenID, Google Identity Toolkit API, OATH, SAML, XACML
- τεχνολογίες βάσεων δεδομένων SQL και RDF (SPARQL)
β) Εμπειρία στην συμμετοχή έργων έρευνας και ανάπτυξης με σχετικό αντικείμενο (μέχρι 3 μόρια)
γ) Άριστη γνώση της Αγγλικής γλώσσας (μέχρι 1 μόριο).
